Teething: Symptoms & Remedies

Teething: What You Need to Know
by Aaron Scott

When you are a parent, you know that kids don't come with an instruction manual. However, babies start having trouble as soon as they are born and it continues throughout their lives. One of those problems that all babies suffer from is teething.

For some, it can start as early as four months, but almost all babies begin teething by six months. If you have a little one at home, here is what you need to know about teething.

Teething: What to look for: One of the very first signs of teething is drooling.

Babies are famous for it and it will cause you to need a bib and a burp pad all the time. Drooling can also cause rashes around the mouth; so if your sweet baby looks red and irritated (and wet), then check inside the mouth.

The next thing you will probably notice when teething begins is that your baby will want to put everything inside the mouth.

You might see your baby begin sucking his or her thumb or fingers and putting toys and everything else in reach in the mouth. If you see your baby doing this, then it is time to provide him or her with teething rings and other soothing (and baby safe) toys.

Bumps along the gum line will come next. That is a sure sign that a tooth is about to erupt.

It will look swollen and red and then as the tooth gets closer to the surface, will turn a whitish color. This will also be painful for your baby and crying usually accompanies teething. You can help the process along by giving your child cool wet washcloths to chew on and using pain medication such as Tylenol or teething gel.
Your baby is going to experience teething, so you need to make sure you have all the right information handy. The good news is that teething doesn't last forever.

Home remedy for baby teething
Teething is where the first set of teeth appear during the sixth and eight month from birth. There is growth of teeth from the gums. This can be a painful experience for the babies. The baby may feel cranky and irritable, he may not be able to sleep comfortably in the night, there may be slight fever and runny nose, and there may be a bulge in the gums where the tooth is erupting out.

Certain Home remedies that can be useful during baby teething are:

* Allow the baby to chew teething rings that has been refrigerated. This works well and the baby feels good. You can also allow the baby to chew a moistened clean wash cloth.
* Wrap a cold apple wedge with an infant sized wash cloth and allow the baby to chew and let the gums pass through so that the sweetness can pass into their mouth.
* Massage the gums gently with a clean washcloth that has been wrapped on a fore finger. This can prevent the build up of bacteria in the gums.
* Give baby a bottle of cold water. This can be soothing for the babies.

If fever stays on long period of time then it is advisable to consult a doctor.

Home Remedies for Baby Teething
Baby teething undergoes various changes and causes itching, irritation and pain. Babies are too small to bear these kinds of pain, itching and irritation. So, here are some of the good home remedies that can help in easy and painless growth of teeth in babies.

The best remedy is the use of chilled teether. These teethers help in easing pain. Teethers are mostly available with a plastic ring filled with a liquid gel. This gel helps in soothing baby's sore and swollen gums.
Another great remedy is feeding your baby with cold food. Frozen foods such as cold banana help to soothe baby's sore gums. Ice creams and yogurts are also beneficial for relieving pain caused during teething. Babies can harmlessly gum on these natural cold foods.

You can also do gentle massage on your baby's swollen gums. Ensure that your hands are clean. With your fingers gently rub forth and back across their gums. This will help in alleviating pain and inflammation.

Every child has different requirements for food, environment and health conditions. Some child may enjoy ice creams but some may be allergic to cold foods. By allergy I mean, cold foods may not suit some children. Each case of teething is also different and therefore, you have to experiment different methods on your baby's sore gums to find out the best alternative that can help your baby enjoy his or her formative years of life without any pain, irritation, itching and inflammation.
