Head lice treatment at home

Post by verena on Sun May 19, 2013 2:06 am

When I was a child, lice were a very common issue here in Bulgaria, especially in schools, where children sit and play close to each other and some of them live in very poor neighbourhoods where personal hygiene is very low. I had had lice twice in my childhood and it was quite a nightmare. Boys would eventually get their heads shaved (which is the ultimate cure; no hair, no lice) but I had a splendid long hair and a haircut was completely out of the question.

So the most common and effective cure (putting the shaving method aside) back then was a mixture of vinegar, gas (for lamps) and lard. Yes, it stinks like hell but it really works (a soup spoon of each ingredient; all mixed in a bowl and applied as a hair mask). Actually it not only cleanses the hair of all the disgusting creatures but it makes it super strong, thick and shiny. No need to say that after an anti-lice treatment all the girls in school had amazing hairs!

So if you don't mind the smell and you need some good hair nourishment, you can try it. (Keep in mind that if you use this mask simply for nourishment, you'd better diminish the ammount of gas from 1 soup spoon to just a few drops. When used to treat lice, gas is the main killing ingredient but if not used carefully, it can burn the scalp. So if you don't have bugs to kill, you don't need that much gas. The few drops you add to the mask just give shine to your hair.)
